Josef Bulant byl malíř, grafik a restaurátor. Výtvarné vzdělání získal na Státní grafické škole a následně na Akademii výtvarných umění v Praze. Po studiích se vrátil do rodné Jihlavy, kde působil nejprve jako výtvarník v Horáckém divadle, později jako pedagog na jihlavském pedagogickém institutu a odborný asistent na katedře estetické výchovy UJEP v Brně.

Ve své tvorbě se inspiroval především krajinou Vysočiny – zvláště okolím Jihlavy – avšak také městskými zákoutími a zátišími. Jeho malířský styl prošel vývojem od realismu k imaginativnímu a stylizovanému vyjádření atmosféry.

Josef Bulant war Maler, Grafiker und Restaurator. Seine künstlerische Ausbildung erhielt er an der Staatlichen Grafikschule und anschließend an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Prag. Nach seinem Studium kehrte er in seine Heimatstadt Jihlava zurück, wo er zunächst als Künstler am Horácké Theater, später als Lehrer am Jihlavaer Pädagogischen Institut und als Assistenzprofessor am Institut für Ästhetische Bildung der Universität in Brünn arbeitete.

In seiner Arbeit ließ er sich von der Landschaft der Region Vysočina – insbesondere der Umgebung von Jihlava – aber auch von Stadtansichten und Stillleben inspirieren. Sein Malstil entwickelte sich vom Realismus hin zu einer fantasievollen und stilisierten Atmosphärendarstellung.

Josef Bulant was a painter, graphic artist, and restorer. He received his art education at the State Graphic School and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. After his studies, he returned to his native Jihlava, where he first worked as an artist at the Horácké Theatre and later as a teacher at the Jihlava Pedagogical Institute and an assistant professor at the Department of Aesthetic Education at theuniversity in Brno.

In his work, he was inspired primarily by the landscape of the Vysočina region – especially the surroundings of Jihlava – but also by urban corners and still life. His painting style evolved from realism to imaginative and stylized expression of atmosphere.
